Just heard the same rumor...

My first thought is how this may affect Ben's fragile ego.

Will he support the decision or whine about his biggest supporter getting canned?

A lot of fans have been supporting Arians because "we were 7th overall in offense in the NFL this year." Or "Ben threw for 4,300 yards with a 100 QB rating this year..." While the stats look good on paper, it was impossible to watch the Steelers this year and not be aggravated by the offensive play-calling. With the talent on this offense, I still think they underperformed this year and I think a change in the OC position is needed.

You don't think Ben's in need of some coddling once in a while? He doesn't seem like the type of QB that takes it well when coaches do not support him or when players question what he is doing. Coaches like Haley, McDaniels and Mangini, who bench players and question their player's attitudes at the drop of a hat, would cause major issues with Ben's head and ultimately his effectiveness as a QB.

There are some guys who play harder when challenged by their coaches, but Ben is not that type of player. I've always perceived him as a guy that needs some emotional support, and if he doesn't get it, it will negatively affect his level of play.

This was flying around Twitter all evening during the Orange Bowl. Players saying he's out, others saying he's not yet, someone even said Arians might have been the one to start the rumors he was gone.

@OFTOT No indication at all from source close to DRooney (long talk). However, I'm hearing rumblings from players it'll be official soon.

@Steelersdepot No flip flop, just reporting to you what I get as I get it. Player says he now has confirmation. One player not enuf to run.

A 3rd source has told me Arians has not been fired. That's 2 from the front office who say no, "not yet," and one player says yes. #steelers

@JoeSteelerfan You say FO leaked the rumor; you're close. Get this: I've been told Arians leaked it himself. And I hear Steelers not amused

The relevant tweets to Curt's post, I believe.

There was one report that he was fired a little after 2 pm yesterday. Has anything else been heard about this since? Bottom line, this move really is necessary. Considering the kind of talent they have on offense, and the lack of points generated, coupled by the bad line play and poorly called plays during tight games, hell yes, kick him to the curb. And let Larry Z follow him out the door as well. Whatever the source of the rumors, it's nice to know something is going on about this....

Gotta love the internet....http://firebrucearians.com/

It sucks to hear that Ken Anderson retired. But what do you have to say about the work he did with Ben? I mean, you can teach somebody hot to do something right, but it's still ultimately up to the player to know when to utilize what you've taught them.

Wexell was saying on Twitter he heard it from players. Wouldn't name the players. Check him on Twitter and see if he's got anything new. I can't get on Twitter here at the school.

Wouldn't it be something that Arians leaked this himself and they show him the door? Fingers crossed.....
