My stupid trade thread.

My stupid trade thread.

Postby zulater on Mon Jan 04, 2010 4:26 pm

OK I'm stupid, but I'm also serious here.

If I'm Kevin colbert I shop James Harrison for draft picks. :tomatoes:

Now hear me out.

If I can get a mid second round pick or higher ( which is probably unlikely) I'm trading Harrison. It's not about the money ( but that helps) it's not about his age, ( but again that is a part of it even if just a small one) It's about Lawrence Timmons who's an OLB being forced to play out of position. I don't think Timmons can ever be much more than an average ILB. But I think he could be an outstanding OLB. Not as good Harrison was in 08, but maybe close to as good as he was in 09, and probably better than he will be by 2011.

This team needs an infusion of good young players. I think trading Harrison might offer some help.

The Niners have two 1s and need a rush OLB. Maybe they'd deal their 2nd one for Harrison and a 3. I'd be fine with that.

That would make sense.

You agree with my thoughts on Timmons Curt?

Okay. I'll play along. Just to be devil's advocate for a second. If you pick up the Niners second 1st round pick and a 3. That would give you the following (thru round 3):

1.17 (Panthers pick through NIners)
1.18 (Steelers Original pick)
2.18 (Steelers Original pick)
3.13 (Niners pick)
3.18 (Steelers Original pick)

One of the first round picks has to be an ILB and the other has to be a NT/CB. The second round pick is likely either a DB or DT then. One of the 3rd round picks is a DB. The other would, again, have to be an ILB. So, as I see it, by trading Harrison you pick up two quality draft picks. But by moving Timmons to cover his spot and already needing to draft a replacement for Farrior; you spend those two picks on ILB. So, if two rookie ILB's are a high enough return on investment, then by all means trade Harrison. Although you might get someone at 17 or 18 that is, I doubt it.

I don't like the trade. IMHO a more doable option is to explore the NBA style idea of a sign and trade with Hampton.

Also as long as we are throwing odd ideas out there -- take an injured Kampman off of the Packers hands. But him in at 3-4 end and turn him loose.

I think Timmons could be a great rush OLB.

I believe BigC mean Harrison + our 3rd for the Niners 1

Yup. That was indeed the case upon rereading it. My mistake.

I look at it like this, Timmons might do very well rushing the qb from the olb position but if you thought he struggled against the run inside just wait until he has to take on an offensive tackle every down.

I am not the biggest Timmons fan here as most probably realize , but I really do not see him taking on an OT every down as a big deal ..the one thing Timmons is is quick ...

his quickness pretty much screws any OT in the league IMO and minimizes the issues he would have with them ...

you can not block what you can not get your hands on ...

rushing from the outside leaves you room to move and change angles more so than inside where people are bunched up ...

I honestly think he would be better ( far better ) outside than inside .... but his wheels are MAJOR concern for me , I just do not believe he can be counted on to be healthy week in week out and there in lies the problem :OK:

Timmons would have to learn more moves and get stronger to pull it off.

Personally, I think Timmons should take over for Farrior and they find somebody else for his position. Draft another young DE/OLB tweener type, which they should have done instead of drafting that waste of roster space, Bruce Davis.

again I think his quickness makes up for what he lacks in other areas ....but can he stay healthy ???? I have my doubts

don't even get me started on the Bruce Davis debacle

3. Get a fullback. The maverick OC’s use of tight ends in the backfield is no longer necessary. Thanks, but no thanks, Maverick, because you’re not using this team any longer to show the rest of the league how smart you are. The RB coach wanted McClain back in 2007, but “Tombert” thought it better to draft Dan Sepulveda and Ryan McBean with the Steelers’ picks in the fourth round. McClain, the guy doing the big-man jig in the Patriots’ end zone, on the Patriots' field, the guy headed for the starting backfield in the Pro Bowl

Speaking of stupid. I just want to apologize for my prior stupidity of defending the use of a 4th round pick to take a punter. :loser:

The Steelers could do much worse than a guy like Rashawn Jackson in the 4th or 5th round.

Hopefully his direction is what helped Matt Moore and not Jake Delhomme.
I dont know of a team that travels as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers--- Troy Aikman week 3 vs. Philadelphia

I dont know of a team that travels as well as the Green Bay Packers--- Troy Aikman GB vs. Minn week 10

which is it Troy?

Scherer was head coach at the University of Memphis when he hired Tomlin for his second job as a graduate assistant coach in 1996 and the two have remained close. They are both William & Mary graduates. Scherer is the cousin of Kevin Colbert, the Steelers' director of football operations.

The power of nepotism grows strong..... :starwars:

The more I read about Tomlin and his relationships with his coaches, the more I wonder how much of it actually played into his hiring.
